Unique Post-Factory Engraved Model 1860 Army 142783

Unique Post-Factory Engraved Model 1860 Army 142783

An interesting 1860 Army, originally part of a U.S. Government Shipment in late 1863 & subsequently period embellished. Revolver retains very little original finish. Engraving is of very high quality, featuring an extremely well executed vine, scroll, and floral layout. Engraving also features checkerboard and punch dot fills that perfectly accent the scroll. Checkerboard style engraving on the butt & cylinder appears to have been done at a later time, by a different hand than the rest of the engraving. Hammer features a Gustave Young-esque wolf’s head and scroll pattern. Wonderfully aged carved Mexican eagle ivory grips accompany this revolver, but are almost certainly for a Model 1871-72 Open Top based on size & fit.  Revolver is mechanically sound, with all matching serial numbers on individual parts.

While engraved post-shipment, the quality of the engraving rivals that of many of the same period Colt factory engraved revolvers and this revolver would make a beautiful accompaniment to a collection of engraved Colts.
